Union soldiers from General Benjamin Prentiss and W.H.L Wallace divisions held their positions known as the hornets nest.Passing Confederates decided to assault the positions. Union troops resulted in heavy casualties and their general suffered deadly wounds.

The Union were beginning to be pushed back,. After Johnston's death, Breckinridge's forces attacked the Union line. They nearly opened up a spot , but failed. The Confederacy's plan failed. Early Morning April 7 1862
Early afternoon, Beauregard began launching counterattacks from the Shiloh Church area. He did this to try gain control of Corinth Road. The final counterattack was flanked by Grant and subsequently failed. |
